What is a mac address?
The entire English form of Mac address is either
Media Access Control Address or MAC Address. A computer's Mac address is a
special identity for the network device used on that computer, which primarily
provides its physical identity to the computer. This is the unique ID of each
network interface. Each of the network interfaces is identified separately
through mac address. The Mac address of a device is usually provided by its
builders. The makers company creates a Mac address according to their company's
ID, code encoding etc.
There is a separate Mac address for each network
device. Number of different devices around the world, since unlimited number of
Mac addresses are 12-digit hexadecimal numbers and they are composed in pairs
by colon separately. For example, xx: xx: xx: xx: xx: xx (x will contain mac
address in the written part). In 6 parts this is written as 12 hexadecimal. It
is written with two digits and then a colon.
MAC Address Extension:
Generally, some devices have a mac address in the
manual. Again, some of the devices have Mac addresses with serial backwards.
However, we can learn the Mac address of the device
connected to the computer in another way. But, it's different for different
operating systems.
Windows 7:
- In the Search box of Start Search and Files, enter "Network and Sharing Center"
- Click the desired result now.
- Now select Change Adapter Settings from left side.
- Press the right mouse button on the connection you want to extract from the connection and go to Properties.
You can see the device's Mac address by putting the
mouse in the text box below the Connect Use.
Windows XP:
- Click on the Start button first.
- Then go to Control Panel> Classic View-> Network Connections.
- Press the right mouse button on the connection you want to extract from the connection and go to Properties.
- If you put the mouse in the text box at the bottom of Connect Use, you will see that device's mac address.
Linux:
- Enter the privileged terminal session for linux ifconfig.
- Through this command, you can see what network devices are installed on your computer.
- Usually here the HWaddr named MAC address is referenced.
Windows Vista:
- In the Search box of Start Search and Files, enter "Network and Sharing Center"
- Select Manage Network Connections option from the left side.
- Press the right mouse button on the connection you want to extract from the connection and go to Properties.
You can see the device's Mac address by putting the
mouse in the text box below the Connect Use.
However, the matter is that if you use Grameenphone
/ Banglalink or Citycell modem then these methods may not work. But then use
this method,
- First you have a net connection to your modem.
- Start> Run
- In the Run box, type cmd and press enter.
- Type the command window open here, ipconfig / all.
- You will then see a lot of information.
- Find out where Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection is available.
- Now here's the Syriar combination of 12 digits and letters in front of the Physical Address, which is actually your mac address.
What is the need of mac address?
Network communication with device is primarily
through Mac address. It can be used as network protocol and can also be used to
break the protocol. Sometimes it is almost mandatory to change the mac address
for hacking or doing illegal activities online. In many networks, the Mac
address filter is used as a security protocol. As a result, only those devices
can be connected to that network, the Mac address of all the devices is in the
filter list of that network. There are many internet service providers, who
provide Internet connection based on the mac address.
Can Mac Address Change?
As we already know, a device's Mac address usually
provides its build-up services. The makers company creates a Mac address
according to their company's ID, code encoding etc. So, some of the Mac's
addresses can not be changed. However, it does not work. As soon as the
computer restarts it again gets its previous MAC address. But sometimes it is
necessary to change the mac address due to various unnecessary reasons. Because
hackers spread the traffic by spoofing another's mac address for DOS attack. So
we need to change the mac address. And changing this address is called 'mac
spoofing'. Let's see how mac address can be changed
In the case of UNDOX XP,
- First press the Start button.
- Then go to Control Panel.
- On Network Connections, you will see some Network Connection between Network and Internet Connection.
- In the connection between these connections, in which you will get an active position, go to Properties by pressing the right mouse button.
- Click on Configure at the General tab.
- Go to the Advanced section and select Network Address or Locally Administered Address Highlight.
- If you look at the right hand side, you can see that the default is selected as not present.
- To change the address, select the radio button at the top of the value and set a new mac address.
- Now you can come out by clicking OK.
For Windows Vista and Windows 7
1. In the Start Search box, type Network and Sharing Center.
2. Then click on the above results.
3. Then go to Manage Network Connections or Change Adapter Settings.
4. Go to the properties of Active Connection.
5. Follow the options above 5 to 9.

What is the difference between IP address and mac address?
IP address is the address of a computer, whereby others can recognize a
particular computer. It is also comparable to phone numbers. However, this IP
address can not be changed. And Mac address is a unique identifier for a
network device. Mac address is basically in hexadecimal format. By the first
half of the Mac address, the device is a model and the other part of the brand
is the unique number. It can be compared to mobile I, M, I, E number or Car V,
I, N numbers.
